Marvel Rivals the New G.O.A.T

Tell me about Marvel Rivals!

Marvel Rivals, aka Rivals, is the new hero shooter to be released that’s worth your time. Rivals was made and published by NetEase Games. It’s a 3rd person shooter that is also a MOBA. If you have heard of or played Overwatch, then you already know the main objective of the game. Players can play as some of their favorite superheroes and supervillains.

The Art is too Clean!!

One of the main key factors of this game that attracts a massive audience, has to be the artwork done in this game. The art design department did an amazing job of capturing the feel of the Marvel universe. Characters have this black outline around them giving the appearance of a 2D drawing, but also doesn’t take away any of the 3D aspects. The maps aren’t visually as appealing compared to the characters, but the maps’ layouts are well-balanced.

How Do Marvel Rivals Feel?

This game plays ridiculously well for an online multiplayer game. Rivals is currently played just almost exactly like Overwatch when it first came out. No role queues, but instead it focuses on team-up abilities to form and create teams. Even though the game wants you to form teams through team-up abilities, The game allows players the freedom to be able to pick any character they so choose. Once you pick a character, you will feel like you are playing that character. I haven’t tried out any of the other game modes outside of the main two except the Jeff Winter Festival. Until I reached Gold 3 in competitive, there were no queue times. Technically, it’s about a second or two, but that feels nonexistent compared to queue times in games like Overwatch and Call of Duty. In these types of games, you don’t win based on just getting kills. To be able to win a match in Rivals, you must play the objectives. The objectives range from capturing a point, pushing a cart/payload, and a mix of those two called hybrids. Lastly, I want to tell you all about the competitive scene. I haven’t made it up to diamond yet, but I know once you have that rank, the bans come into play. Each team can ban two different heroes. This can lead to targeted banning, so it makes players have to learn multiple different heroes. The best part about ranking up at gold you get an exclusive skin.

The Community of Rivals

Since this game is huge on team collaboration, I figure I’ll tell y’all about the Rivals community. I would say there is a strong split in the community. I’m just gonna split them and say this game has 2 different communities, and one is good while the other is toxic as hell. Starting with the good community, the ones that understand it’s a new game and are down for all of the weirdness. It’s filled with people who are trying to learn the game and people who are teaching the lost ones. These people are the ones who are playing the game because the game is genuinely fun. The other half of people, what I call the “delinquents of the land”, will make you want to punch through the internet. These people are in every online game that has a competitive mode. If you’re in-game chat, it’s a 50/50 chance of receiving actual good teammates.

My Experience

If someone has been telling you to hop on this free game and you’re still on the fence, go ahead and jump off of it. I’ve been having such a blast with this game it’s not even funny. The game runs smoothly with no errors so far. I play on PlayStation 5 and I haven’t made any reports to the game. Usually, new games come out and aren’t fully completed or the game is buggy. I haven’t had any issues at all. The main issue I have is the players. If y’all don’t get y’all dirty nuggets off of duelists, hit an enemy or switch to vanguard and be a punching pillow. I’m only saying this for people in competitive. If it’s quick play I don’t care, those matches don’t count. The struggle of getting out of bronze is a problem, maybe even silver now as well. Too many players start to play rank and are very confused about what is going on. I say the game should implement a tutorial before it allows players to enter a match of competitive.

In Conclusion

The best hero shooter to come out since Overwatch. The game has a strong debate for being better than overwatch. The game is a breath of fresh air. It’s like you were living in New York City then you go visit nature for the first time in your life. The artwork and gameplay feel smooth and amazing. The character you choose feels like how you would think the character would feel. You can tell the creators spent a lot of time creating this game. The little things most developers skip over, they touched on and made it work. In my books, this game is a solid 98 out of 100.
